Ypres1418 app for iPhone and iPad

100 years ago, Western Europa was struck by a great war that would change the world forever. The Ypres1418 app takes you to the region around Ypres, a Belgian city in the province of West Flanders that was surrounded by the Germans from three sides during the war. The Ypres Salient, as it was called, would last throughout the war. 4 battles took place in that region.

A 3D character, the British soldier Thomas Smith, guides you along some of the most important locations around Ypres. The locations are shown in a list (such as Menin Gate, Essex Farm Cemetery, Tyne Cot Cemetery, ...) and can be found on a map of the region.

At each location, Thomas tells you about life as a soldier during WWI and about the importance of the location. His story is complemented by images and audio fragments.

The app can also be used on site. You can replace the background images by the live images recorded by your device and make a screenshot to post on Twitter.
